PostHeaderIcon Council decides on Emcon

"Huge" Decision

On Monday June 11, Council adopted a resolution siting Rossland's future skatepark in the South-East corner of the Emcon lot.  Councillors in support of the motion spoke of the move as the first step in greening the lot, in line with plans to convert it to other civic plaza-like uses.  They also noted the benefit of locating the park next to RSS, allowing organized programs of recreation and school programs to use the park.

Getting this decision is a huge boost to the effort to get a skatepark in Rossland.  We can now move on to the design stage, with input from skaters, neighbours and others in the community, to make the park great for all concerned.  And fundraising will be more straightforward, with a definite site designated. We hope to start design consultations in September -- watch this space.

RSA has two years to come back to Council with finds in hand and a plan for the park.  At that point it still has to clear re-zoning, and Council should approve the plans.

Thanks to all those that worked so hard to make this great result possible!
